Why this is called Annadale?
In the East Indian United Service Journal, Annadale is situated was first documented in 1834. When British officers saw the area for the first time, they initiate it similar to the Annadale valley in Dumfriesshires or County of Dumfries in Scotland, and marked to name it after the Scottish site because most of the officers bet from the original Annadale. Pratt Kennedy an officer in the Bengal Artillery, who was allocated a job to find a suitable place for establishing summer capital. He visited to Shimla hills in 1822. He was so affected by the charm of the dale that he named it after “Anna” his lady love back in England.
Geographical Location
Annadale is situated 2 kilometers apart from Shimla Railway Station. This area is installedin the middle of and Deodar trees and Lush green mountains. Moreover, it has same distance from the Ridge which is named as Jakhoo on the vertical slant up on the hill and Annadale is down the hill from The Ridge and Kaithu.
After Independence
Cricket, Polo, Football, Gymkhana, polo, Hockey matches and other social and cultural festivals were arranged in Annadale after got an independence. At that time Dussehra was the most popularfestival organized to engage people in the town, due to an incompatibility between army and police created enmity between the military and civil administration in 1972. For this occurrence, the festival was shifted to Jakhoo Temple. A different crucialcase was in plenary session of the All India Congress Committee in 1971. A national women’s field game championship was also organized there as well.

There are three colleges in Annadale are Shimla Nursing College, B. Ed Collegeand Modern Nursing College. Three government schools are also there, Govt. Primary School,Annadale&Gawai Primary School, Govt. High School.

If your hotel is near to railway station, this is 2 kms away from Annadale. For those are coming by train this is the best option. To reach the railway station, and then walk to or hire a taxi for Annadale. If you are near to the Ridge, then you should reach by taxi or an auto to reach Annadale. Shimla Railway station is the nearest station if you are travelling by toy train. But for Major trains Kalka and Chandigarh is the nearest railway station. Kalka is around 85km and Chandigarh is 115kms from Shimla.

Shimla old bus stand, is for local buses, But major bust stand is ISBT.
Nearest Airport
Shimla has its own Airport but very few flights are available. Chandigarh International airport and flights from all major cities are available.
